What is “Content”
What do digital marketers mean when they refer to content, content curation and content marketing? That’s a good question…I’m glad you asked! Here’s my simple answer. Content is information.
A few weeks ago I was talking with a small business owner who was struggling to get more leads and quality customers. She had identified some major missing pieces with her website and lack of any effective digital marketing. As we got a little deeper into discussing her ideal client it became apparent that they were, in fact, hanging out online and making buying decisions based on the information they found there.
Let me tell you a story…
An entrepreneur sits down to her desk and turns on her computer. Her email is overflowing…Facebook notifications have piled up…the competition has posted amazing images on Instagram and her website desperately needs updating. As she prepares to face the day, she wonders how long it will be before she can get started on her real work.
What’s Content Marketing?
Content marketing is a tool used by businesses to attract customers to their brand. It’s giving something of value to them that makes their life easier or better in some way. Whether it’s strictly information they need, inspirational words or images, humorous stories or “how-to” details, it’s focused on their needs and it’s free. It helps you build your brand. It creates credibility and trust. But it’s not copywriting.
